Character History:

What most people know about his history is brief: He grew up in Qarinus, and joined the Tevinter Cavalry alongside Hadrian. They served together under a Commander they trusted and respected… and then things went to shit. Then they went into more shit. And they left without word or warning. Today, they're in Kirkwall as the Leadership of The Evocati.

Which either means they're giving Tevinter the biggest Fuck You they can think of. Or, they vastly overestimate their own abilities.

P.S. So far, it doesn't look like it's option 2.

Publicly, Jovan is a smart mouthed, arrogant, sort-of-asshole. He knows what we wants, and how he wants to get it, and he'll do whatever it takes to make it happen. He's quick with a mischievous grin, a slick comment, or a joke. He's also a man with an excellent business acumen. He knows the real best deals are the ones that are a win-win. It brings you a loyal base of repeat customers and everyone is happy. So he won't promise more then they can deliver. Of course, they can deliver an awful lot.

In private? Well, not many see that side of him. He works hard, all the time. He doesn't ask of anyone something that he wouldn't do himself. And he feels a deeply ingrained sense of duty to help an innocent that's in trouble if he can. He lets Hadrian do the vetting for that; and if his friend thinks it's all aboveboard, then he'll make sure it's done whether Hadrian agrees with his largesse or not. Of course, only Hadrian, and maybe Aelia, can guess that he's trying to atone for the brutality he displayed in bringing vengeance to his former brother-in-law. Or that he's trying to save everyone else to make up for the fact that nobody could save his little sister.
